GEOGRAPHY FINDINGS

Fundamental to the successful integration of ICT in geography was teachers' understanding of the process of learning geography and how this related to their teaching strategies.

Geography teachers need to develop their pedagogic practices to incorporate the productive use of new technologies in their teaching. The project has some practical suggestions to make about how this could happen. WATCH THIS SPACE.

There is more work to be done on the question of whether the use of the internet will contribute to the breaking of the unhealthy dependence on one set of geography textbooks identified in the 1998 OFSTED review of secondary education.

The use of Virtual Fieldtrips remains an issue for teachers. Are they are able to enhance, or even replace, experience in the field? Do they encourage a 'Centre Parcs' view of geography rather than extending on from actual fieldwork experience?
